About
A game designed by both Dylan Delibegovic and Lyndon Bork, for the BCHS Game Jam 2021. Lyndon had created the textures and pixel art assets, while Dylan focused on the rest of the game, (programming, sound, etcetera). The project was developed from the ground up, over merely a week, and was my earliest completed Unity product.
Gameplay wise, Jammed is themed around building your own jam-based economical empire, by having much control over the three different factories, available as upgrades. I designed the game to give off the feeling of controlling a production line, down to every key placement, it's supposed to capture the intricacies of production. Both one player and two players are viable options for this game, and players must take place in rapid quick time minigames to keep the jam flowing. If a player misses a key, the jam will clog the production line, and production must be halted in order to unclog.
The project showcases 2D pixel art in a 3D space, with custom materials. Initially, we had planned for a fully 2D game, but decided to shift to 3D for a more distinct look. At first, the game appeared intimidating and technically challenging to complete in such a short time period, but many workarounds were found, and the finished product was quite close to our original vision. For example, floor upgrades are available in Jammed, and I figured having two floors simulated in the same scene simultaneously wouldn't be very efficient. To resolve this issue, when a player triggers a floor upgrade, Cinema Machine is used to pan the camera upwards, and instantly jump back down. This gives the illusion of a new floor being unlocked, as the process is completely seamless. My script then estimates the amount of money being generated automatically on the prior floor, and continues to add it to the total points. This is merely one feat during the creation of the game, and many more were implemented.
